To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure at all. I do know, however, that the frequency range of the device encompasses the entire cellular band (and then some). Additionally, its specifications are comparable (and in some cases exceed) those of the USRP1, which has been successfully demonstrated to act as an OpenBTS and GNU Radio peripheral. If you want to know for certain, I would suggest acting the creators of the bladeRF because I only have as much information as everyone else.

Hi
Are you sure that the bladerf will/is compatible with gsm network testing like openbts/airprobe ...
No test have been done yet and according to some discussion on kickstarter even the higer price model may be too limited and further testing are required: (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1085541682/bladerf-usb-30-software-defined-radio/comments)

I honestly have no idea if this still works. I don't have an iPhone that uses a SIM card, so I can't test this for myself, either. You could try this yourself, just make sure to set your iPhone's APN to the iPad AT&T APN.

Alternatively, if you still have the iPad, you can activate the plan there, jailbreak it, and use a tethering app to tether with your iPhone.

If you only need data on your phone, depending on where you're going in the US, you may be able to get a prepaid T-mobile SIM card activation kit (http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phones/prepaid-sim-cards) and use that in your iPhone with one of their Monthly 4G plans (http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/monthly-4g-plans, I recommend the $30 100 minute, unlimited text, and "unlimited" 5 GB data plan). This will only work in cities where T-mobile has activated their 1900 MHz HSPA+ service (T-mobile's normal HSPA+ band in the US is 1700 MHz, which is not compatible with the iPhone). Use this map to find those areas: http://www.airportal.de/

Good luck!

I'm wondering if this method is still working or if AT&T blocks you if you don't use your SIM with the IMEI entered.

In 2010 I activated an iPad Data Pass via my own iPad and afterwards put the SIM Card into my iPhone 4. It worked flawlessly.

Can you please give me an update if this method is still working :)

I don't want to pay 50$ for 1GB. (AT&T suggests an 50$ for 1GB plan if I enter my iPhone IMEI here: https://buyasession.att.com/)

As AT&T states in their service agreement "AT&T reserves the right to ... suspend your account if devices other than an iPad are used with iPad Plans or if an iPad is used with any plan other than an iPad Plan." I'm afraid of getting blocked.

I would really be very thankfull if you could give me an update on this, as I'm going to the US tomorrow, and looking for a proper prepaid data plan in the US is really annoying.
